Active Flag Visit October 2023
This week we had a school visit from an Active Flag Inspector, the lovely Ms Ita Seoige.
Having met with both our Playground Leaders and Active Flag Committee, Ms Seoige was treated to an afternoon tour of our school and all things active with our students.
She even jumped onboard and got involved with our Movement Exercises at the end of break which you will see from the photos below, was ALOT of fun, ALOT of energy and ALOT of happy campers.
To top the day off, we had a surprise announcement from Ita that Scoil Mhuire-having successfully passed the screening stage of The Active Flag Campaign had also passed the inspection of our Active Flag Campaign. This meant she could officially confirm that Scoil Mhuire…drum roll please…..could officially be confirmed as Active Flag Holders.
There was scenes of happiness, excitement and even hugs amongst the students and staff as all the hard work by the committee, staff and students had paid off.
Congratulations to everyone involved and a huge Thank You to Mr Lee, Ms Gibbons and to Mr McAleer for getting the campaign up and running, for continuing through with all the plans set out from start to finish and for their support and encouragement with the Active Flag Committee and Playground Leaders throughout this journey.
A very proud day for Scoil Mhuire so Well Done to everyone!
Our Active Flag Committee are all systems go this Spring. Here they are for their weekly meeting with Mr Lee filing him in on what’s coming up this month.
Scoil Mhuire Playground Leaders
This year Scoil Mhuire have re-introduced playground leaders to our yards. These children have been chosen from Ms Coyne’s 5 th Class.
Playground leaders have a very important role in encouraging the younger pupils to be active during lunchtime. The playground leaders are responsible for organising the equipment from our P.E room, setting up the games in the yard and packing up afterwards. They have introduced a great selection of games such as obstacle races, parachute activities, skipping challenges, basketball hoops and activities with hula hoops.
Each week the leaders demonstrate and teach the new games and activities. They have also introduced traditional playground games such as hopscotch, tip the can, red light, green light etc.
These are our new playground leaders for this school year. They are very excited to get started with the games and the playground leaders are instrumental in setting up the activities and organising. They will also give feedback to the Active School Committee on how improvements can be made to make it a success and fun during the year.
