Our Kayaking Experience
On Wednesday, the 2nd of June we went on our school tour to Gurteen Beach. We all had to put on wetsuits and were split into two groups. The instructors explained how to use the equipment safely. The first group went out kayaking. At one stage, after they had glided swiftly to the other side of the beach, they held the kayaks together and created a raft. Some of them jumped into the freezing water and they loved it. They also played ‘Dizzy Sticks’ on the shore.
While the first group were out on the kayaks, the second group were playing games on the beach. They created plenty of sandcastles and buried their friends. Don’t worry, they made it out safe. They made up funny games, dug a big hole and everyone jumped in, disappearing for a while. They had plenty of props including seaweed, buckets and spades. Unfortunately, some were victims to sand balls.
Later on, everyone came back together as a group and went swimming. When Iarla announced ‘Burgers are ready’, everyone waded back in and sprinted to the barbecue making a singular line. We all enjoyed a delicious barbecue lunch.
Then the second group went out kayaking and the first group played games on the beach and went out into the water. Everyone had a blast!
We would like to thank Iarla, James and Shane for the lovely time we had with them. We would also like to thank Mr. McAleer, Ms. Staunton, Martina and Múinteoir Bairbre for making this possible.
We hope that the next tour will be just as much fun!
