On Saturday, 27th of February, we – the quiz team, Jane Conroy, Maire Loftus, Aoife Mannion and Gearoid Heanue – participated in the chapter level of the Credit Union Table Quiz. We travelled to the Clayton Hotel in Galway and joined all the other teams who had won the previous round from their area. We were quite intimidated by the All-Ireland champions from 2015, St. Annin’s National School, who were sitting right behind us. We had been preparing for this quiz for four weeks but some of the other schools had started practicing since the start of September last year. We were waiting for about a half an hour at the beginning due to a car crash which held up some of the participants. During the delay, we were occupied by singing ‘The Wheels on the Bus’ and various other songs. Finally, the children arrived and the quiz began. A lot of the topics we had studied did not come up. When all the scores were tallied up, they announced the teams who came first and second place who would be going through to the next level in Dublin. Newcastle National School from Athenry came first place in the Junior and the Senior category. Surprisingly, St Annin’s, the Al-Ireland champions, came second place in the Senior category. Unfortunately, we are not going to the next level, but we enjoyed the whole experience. We came eighth place out of twelve. There are some questions that we found very difficult and we have included them down below for you to try yourself.
